Congratulations to Luke & Kevin Williamson and the rest of the 1st team squad as they mauled title rivals Basildon Town 5-1 at St Martins School on Saturday. George Cunningham got the Blues off to a flyer with a goal in he 15th minute after a mistake by the Basildon centre half and then on the stroke of half time James Bigmore went one on one with the keeper to smash home the second. Whilst it was a telling contribution it was sadly his last as he hobbled off following a tackle in the process of scoring. Shenfield then went three up early in the 2nd half when Mitchell Day rounded off a free flowing move. The visitors did pull one back from a corner and threatened to reduce the arrears still further with what was to be their best spell of the game. However, further goals from Day and man of the match Harry Hat saw them comfortable victors.
Mathematically both FC Hamlets or Basildon can overhaul Shenfields current total of 48 points but with both of them having to play each other and Snaresbrook the 1st piece of silverware for several years is within touching distance.
The reserves also recorded a victory as they kept a clean sheet in beating Toby Res’s 2-0 at The Drive with goals from Paul Constable and Corley Ross.
Finally, Dads Army played out a dull 0-0 draw at Herongate leaving them to play their final match on the 27th April against Rayleigh.
