On Saturday we hosted Sungate who are newly promoted after winning Division 2 last season.
It was also our first game on the new 3G pitch we have moved to this season and, as expected, was a very open game, end to end game for the whole 90 minutes.
Shenfield started off on top and had a few chances to take the lead which we then accomplished through good passing down the left hand side to which Ollie Dingli set up Will Marlowe for an easy tap in to go 1-0 up.
Shenfield then kept the pressing the Sungate back line and missed a host of chances to extend the lead with Williamson hitting the bar and
Sumner, Absolon and Dingli also missing what were clear opportunities.
Sungate then started to get into the game with 15 minutes left of the first half and pulled a few strings which opened the Shenfield defence up with a fine finish and a well deserved team goal.
As the second half started the opposition were more on top with their commitment and passing, which lead to them taking the lead 2-1 through a 20 yard strike which hit the post and went in.
Sungate then sat back and soaked the pressure up which ended in Shenfield playing some fine football down the right hand side for Marlowe to bag his brace from an excellent Sam Lock pass.
Shenfield went bold and made 3 subs simultaneously with 25 minutes left to try and get fresh leg to get the 3 points.
The game was then wide open for the remaining 25 minutes and either team could have scored the winner.
Sadly, a superb strike on the volley from 25 yards from a Sungate midfielder settled the contest although Shenfield continued to press and both Sumner and Absolon had excellent chances to equalise but The Blues couldn’t break down the opposition defence who stood solid to take all 3 points.
We move on and travel to a good Newbury Forest side on Saturday and look to come away with a win and 3 points.
