Shenfield 2nds began the season entertaining Springfield FC at the Drive.
The aim was for Shenfield to carry on from where they left off last season, and they didn’t disappoint.
Despite Springfield 1sts last year claiming the Premier Division title, and the club expected to field two strong squads this season, Shenfield on the day had too much firepower, and went in an impressive 5-0 up at half time.
From the off , Shenfield were both organised and clinical, having drafted in Tom Oliver and Chris Waterhouse to the backline, in addition to those that had featured in pre-season,
Matthew Taiwo lead the first half fireworks with two goals and an assist, and was simply un-containable for the Springfield defence.
Whilst last year’s top scorer Liam Snellin also opened his account for the 2017/18 season.
Terry Bauckham playing in the number ten role, had a hand in four of the first half goals including scoring one. The score could have been even more emphatic by half time, but for a missed penalty and a goal ruled out for offside late in the first half, created from what was arguably the move of the game. A flowing five pass combo from Shenfield’s own area before the ball was in the back of the Springfield net.
The second half performance level dropped ever so slightly, but the team managed to still conjure up another four goals, highlight been a twenty minute hat-trick from substitute Tunde Olagunju and Tommy Oliver bagging a deserved goal.
The final score finishing 9-0 was a fair reflection of the contest overall, Shenfield played some great football throughout and left a marker for the season.
