And so it came to pass….and with it Shenfields last shot at silverware. So the season concluded on a sombre note with the Vets over 45’s exiting the League Management Trophy at the Semi Final stage following a 4-0 reverse at the hands of Harold Hill.
Now that the season has concluded it falls to me, on behalf of the Clubs Committee, to thank all those players, managers, officers and other non playing personnel in and outside of the club who have contributed in various ways to ensure that the season has been a success. Special thanks here to the laundry man, the kitpersons (Burt & Di) and to our sponsors, Jerry and Leanne at the Eagle & Child, and their staff, we salute you.
On the field, whilst we didn’t quite accomplish our promotion goals across the Olympian League section, we certainly gave it a good go. Finishing 3rd & 4th respectively was no mean achievement.
The Vets section had periods of success with the 1st team challenging for promotion only to fall away at the business end of the season.
All the best for the close-season and with no England failings to distract us we hope you have an enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you at the season curtain raiser that is the annual Stuart Feakins Memorial Day Tournoi in August. Dates to be advised.
Yours in Sport (& beer)
