Not a great weekend for Shenfields Fab Five with it beginning with the cancellation of the Vets B’s game against Catholic, which was probably the best result of the day.
In the 4th round of the EOL Senior Cup Shenfield faced the mighty Frenford Senior, who occupied 2nd place in the Premier League. The teams were evenly matched on the 3G plastic at St Martins School with both goalkeepers keeping clean sheets going into extra time. Despite Frenford taking an early lead, Shenfields sub William Marlow turned the game on its head with 2 goals to put them 2-1 up but with seconds remaining our illustrious opponents drew level forcing the game into penalties. However, an upset was not to be and Frenford ran out 5-4 winners in the shoot-out.
The Frenford Manager was quoted as saying that his team had won against the better side…. Scant consolation for Luke and Kevin Williamson.
Back to league action this weekend with a home match against OC’s.
An understrength EOL Reserve team travelled to high flying Sungate in the hope of a result to preserve their fading promotion ambitions. However, the home team ran out 4-1 winners with Liam Snellin grabbing Shenfields effort. Just a couple of home games left now for Dominic Barretts team against the bottom two sides in the division. Six points and a shed load of goals will be the aim.
The Vets A also exited the cup this time at the semi-final stage with Sporting Club Woodham smashing 5 past them. Jason Swan bagging a consolation for Shenfield.
And finally the Super Vets travelled to Aldborough Road South where they played Glassmasters and returned not only pointless in a 4-1 defeat but less a selection of vehicle / house keys, £50 in cash and an Audi A6…..Indeed a weekend to forget in the long history of Shenfield AFC.
