Club History AND HONOURS
1985 - Shenfield Association Football Club formed by a group of school leavers from Shenfield Secondary School.
1986 - First game on 6th September 1986 against Chelmsford City in Division Two of the Mid-Essex Football League, founder member Andy Hearn scoring the club’s first goal.
1989 - Promoted to Division One.
1993 - Reserve Team formed and entered into Division Five of the Mid-Essex Football League (MEL).
1994 - First Team promoted to the Premier Division (MEL).
1996 - Reserve Team promoted up to Division Three (MEL).
1997 - Reserve Team promoted to Division Two (MEL).
1998 - First silverware for Shenfield AFC - First Team are Premier Division Champions, Dave Strachan Knockout Cup Winners and Premier Division Cup Winners. Only the second time in the Mid-Essex Football League’s 100-year history that one club had held all three trophies at the same time. Reserve Team are promoted to Division One (MEL). Third Team formed and entered into Division Five (MEL). On the 5th December the Third Team play the 500th competitive game by a team from Shenfield AFC.
1999 - First Team are Premier Division Cup Winners (MEL). The Reserve Team lift their first silverware as Division One Cup Winners (MEL). The 1998/99 season was the last for the First and Reserve Teams in the Mid-Essex Football League. Intermediate status was applied for and achieved and the clubs top two teams would kick of the next season in the Division Three of the Senior and Reserve sections of the Essex Intermediate Football League (EIL).
2000 - Third Team promoted to Division Four (MEL).
2001 - Third Team promoted to Division Three as Division Four Champions (MEL).
2002 - First Team promoted to Senior Division Two (EIL) and Reserve Team promoted to Reserve Division Two (EIL). Fourth Team formed and entered into Division Five (MEL).
2003 - First Team promoted to Division One (EIL).
2004 - On the 13th March the First Team play their 500th competitive game. On the 18th December the Reserve Team play the 1000th competitive game by a team from Shenfield AFC.
2005 - First Team are the Essex Intermediate Football League Senior Division Cup Winners and the Southend Charity Cup Winners but are also relegated for the first time in their history back to Division Two (EIL). Third Team promoted to Division Two (MEL).
2006 - Fourth Team disbanded and replaced by the clubs first Veterans Team who enter into Division Three West of the Essex Veterans League (EVL).
2007 - First Team relegated to Senior Division Two (EOL) (formerly Division Three (EIL) after renaming of Division One to Premier Division) and the Reserve Team relegated to Reserve Division Two of the renamed Essex Olympian League (EOL). Veterans First Team promoted to Division Two West (EVL). Veterans Reserve Team formed and enter Division Three East (EVL). Reserve and Third teams fold mid-season.
2008 - Reserve Team is reformed and enters Reserve Division Three (EOL).
2009 - On the 16th May the First Team play the 1500th competitive game by a team from Shenfield AFC. Veterans First Team promoted to Division One (EVL). Veterans Reserve Team promoted to Division Two East (EVL) as Division Three East Champions (EVL). Veterans Reserve Team are Division Three Cup Winners (EVL).
2010 - First Team are Southend Charity Cup Winners. Veterans First Team relegated to Division Two West (EVL) and Veterans Reserve Team are therefore automatically relegated to Division Three West (EVL).
2011 - Veterans First Team promoted back to Division One (EVL) as Division Two West (EVL) Champions.
2012 - Veterans First Team promoted to the Premier Division of the Essex Veterans League.
2013 - First Team promoted to Division Two (EOL).
2014 - First Team promoted to Division One (EOL). The Veterans Reserve Team promoted to Division Two West (EVL). On the 13th September the Reserve Team play their 500th competitive game. On the 13th December the Reserve Team play the 2000th competitive game by a team from Shenfield AFC.
2015 - Veterans Over 45s Team formed and enter Over 45s West Division (EVL). Essex Olympian League merges Senior and Reserve Divisions First team remain in Division One, Reserve Team are placed in Division Five.
2016 - Veterans First Team relegated to the Division One West (EVL) and Veterans Reserve Team moved to Division Two East (EVL).
2017 - Veterans Reserve Team relegated to Division Three East (EVL).
2018 - Reserve team promoted to Division Four (EOL). Veterans Over 45s Team moved to Over 45 Division One East (EVL).
2019 - First Team promoted to Premier Division as Division One Champions (EOL). Veterans Over 45s Team promoted to Over 45 Premier Division as Over 45 Division One East Champions (EVL). Veterans Reserve Team relegated to Division Four East (EVL) and Veterans First Team moved to Division One East (EVL). On the 26th October the First Team play the 2500th competitive game by a team from Shenfield AFC.
2020 - The “Season That Never Was” – Essex Olympian league cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. Veterans Over 45s Team controversially relegated to Over 45 Premier Division One South (EVL) and Veterans First Team moved to Division One West (EVL).
2021 - Veterans Reserve Team promoted to Division Three East (EVL), Veterans Over 45s Team promoted to Over 45 Premier Division (EVL) and Veterans First Team moved to Division One East (EVL).
2022 - On the 8th January the First Team play their 1000th competitive game. The Veterans Over 45s Team are Over 45s Premier Division Cup Winners (EVL). Third Team relegated to Division Five (MEL) although actually remain in Division Four (MEL) after reduction in the divisions in the MEL. Veterans Reserve Team relegated to Division Four West (EVL).
2023 - The First Team win the Essex County FA Premier Cup. Veterans First Team disbands. Veterans Reserve Team moved to Division Three West (EVL). Veterans Over 45s Reserve Team formed and enters Over 45s Division Two West (EVL).
